Before taking the theory test and driving test, CBR staff will check your identity. If you do not have a valid identification, you will not be allowed to take the theory test or the driving test.
If you are a Dutch national, you must bring at least one of the following documents with you:
- A valid Dutch passport.
- A valid Dutch identity card.
- A Dutch driving license. This may have expired.
If you also have another nationality, use your Dutch identity card.
If you are a national of a country in the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland, you will need the following documents as valid proof of identity:
- A valid EU, EEA, or Swiss passport;
- A valid EU, EEA, or Swiss national identity card;
- A valid EU, EEA, or Swiss residence permit.
If you are a national of a country outside the EU, EEA, or Switzerland, or if you are from the United Kingdom you will need one or more of the following documents as valid proof of identity
- A valid foreign passport with a valid sticker for residence in the Netherlands;
- A valid Dutch residence permit.;
- A valid Dutch travel document for refugees;
- A valid Dutch travel document for foreigners;
- A valid foreign identity card. Please note: this only applies if the test does not give you a category on your driving license;
- A return visa is not the same as a valid residence sticker in the Netherlands. A return visa is not a valid ID document for the theory and driving test.
What will not be accepted:
- Copies or evidence of loss;
- Emergency passports;
- Temporary passports;
- Damaged documents.
