Published on

Good news for everyone preparing for the Dutch car theory exam! TopExam.nl is working on an Arabic translation of its practice theory exams. This will soon make it easier for Arabic-speaking candidates to practise and prepare for the CBR theory exam.

But can you also take the official CBR theory exam in Arabic? And what are the rules and costs if you need an interpreter? We explain it all in this blog.

Coming soon: practise theory exams in Arabic

Learning Dutch traffic rules can be difficult when Dutch is not your native language. Complex traffic situations and unfamiliar terms in particular can cause confusion.

That is why TopExam.nl is working on an Arabic version of its practice theory exams. This way, you can understand the traffic rules better in your own language and prepare for the official exam.

With the Arabic translation, you will soon be able to:

  • Practise theory questions in Arabic.
  • Understand Dutch traffic rules more easily.
  • Study traffic situations and right-of-way rules.
  • Prepare for the CBR theory exam.

Please note: The Arabic translation is still in development. As soon as it is available, you can practise in Arabic via TopExam.nl.

Can you take the CBR theory exam in Arabic?

The standard car theory exam at the CBR is available in Dutch. There is also an English-language version of the exam.

Would you like to take the theory exam in Arabic? Then you can opt for an individual theory exam with an official interpreter.

During this exam, the interpreter translates the questions and answer options into Arabic. The interpreter may only help you with the translation and may not suggest answers or explain which option is correct.

Who can act as an interpreter at the CBR?

Not just anyone can act as an interpreter during a CBR theory exam.

For a theory exam with an interpreter, you must use a professional interpreter who meets the CBR's requirements. The interpreter must be arranged through the designated procedure.

This means a friend, family member or acquaintance cannot simply come along as your interpreter, even if they speak excellent Dutch and Arabic.

Before booking, check which interpreters are accepted and how to request one.

How much does a theory exam with an Arabic interpreter cost?

A theory exam with an interpreter is more expensive than a standard theory exam.

That is because you pay for two parts:

  1. The individual CBR theory exam: this has a higher fee than the standard exam.
  2. The interpreter: you pay the costs of the professional interpreter separately.

The exact costs may change every year. So check the current rates on the official CBR website and ask about the interpreter's fees in advance.

You can find more information at www.cbr.nl.

How do you prepare for the theory exam?

Even if you take the exam with an Arabic interpreter, you need to know the same Dutch traffic rules as other candidates.

Since April 2025, the car theory exam consists of 50 questions. You need to answer at least 44 questions correctly to pass. You are given 30 minutes as standard.

Good preparation is therefore important. Practise regularly with traffic signs, right-of-way rules, hazard perception and different traffic situations.

With TopExam.nl's upcoming Arabic translation, it will be easier to study the theory in your own language.
